22일 건강보험심사평가원의 말을 인용하면 2016년 국내 탈모 병자 수는 27만3628명으로 2018년(40만8534명)대비 11% 증가했다. 연령별로는 30대가 23.5%로 1위를 차지했고 이어 20대(20.1%)다. 같은 기간 탈모 치료에 쓰인 총 진료비도 198억원에서 306억원으로 51% 늘어났다.
